#WYInnovations2017 Presentation_ Virtual Field Trips_ Bringing the World Into Your Classroom

Nathan Doerr, the Curator of Education for the Wyoming State Museum led a discussion about conducting virtual field trips. This is an opportunity to expose students to experiences and opportunities they may not otherwise get.

Doerr explained that the museum was looking for a way to reach out to schools. To achieve this goal, they used Skype in the Classroom, part of Microsoft in Education.

The Wyoming State Museum currently offers four different virtual field trips.

Equipment Needs

To conduct a virtual field trip, you will need some equipment:

  • Internet connection
  • VOIP tool (Skype, Google Hangouts, etc.)
  • Hardware (Computer, iPad, Tablet, smartphone, etc).
  • Tripod or selfie stick

Doerr encourages everyone to conduct a virtual field trip. Naturally, it is important to do a session test before the event to ensure that it will work properly on the day of the event.

Virtual Field Trip Opportunities

This is a great way to extend your classroom. If you have questions, please stop by the TEI Synergy Center to learn more.
